New cabinets are probably the favourite area of any home. Even the most novice of cooks boiling the kettle to a French chef serving up dégustation for a table full of friends can all appreciate the crispness of a new bespoke kitchen.
These days kitchens are a space for more than just slaving away over a hot stove as most kitchens are now built in open plan rooms that spills out to the dining and lounge areas. In recent years we are seeing more clever ideas like continuing the kitchen through to the adjacent verandah for entertaining with an outdoor BBQ kitchen with innovative alfresco cabinetry products. Laundries that are located next to kitchens are being converted in to butler’s pantry to hide the utilitarian aspects of a kitchen while still retaining the function of a laundry which makes for a more flexible storage area that works harder in busy lives.
While the dream home generating site, Pinterest, has an amazing array of sexy cabinetry styles, colour palettes, textures and layouts, sometimes it is hard to know exactly what is practical for you in the Australian marketplace and where you need to get started. That’s where we love to help you turn your dreams into a reality as all our work is custom made using products that are compliant to Australian Standards and suited to your needs.
To get you started on an estimate we need to get the following information from you… and to make it super easy you can downloadable this printable checklist, fill it in, then email it back to us to get the process started. To kick-start this, please also read the list of materials below as it has handy reference imagery and links through to some of our suppliers.
Doors/drawer fronts and end-panels
Laminate products have come an incredibly long way. In the 70’s we saw Burnt Orange, 80’s Salmon Pink through to 90’s Cream. In 2018 we are seeing lots of greys, monochrome, and vibrant pops of colour. Our suppliers constantly bring out new stylish products to keep up with global trends. Technology has also seen some of these suppliers bringing in some finishes with anti-fingerprint technology through to realistic laminate boards in concrete and rustic timber looks but at a fraction of the price when comparing the real deal. If your style is classical, you may like to opt for doors in your own shape or bespoke colours with 2 pack paint and routered doors (aka shaker or farmhouse doors). Of course, there is also timber in solid or veneer which is available in a range of grain-cuts and timber species. Below is a list of options ranked approximately from lowest to highest prices**.
- Laminate colour boards
- Paperock sustainable ply and composite decorative boards
- Plain doors with 2 pack paint
- Routered doors with 2 pack paint
- Timber veneer (Australian or Exotic)
- Solid timber
