COVID-19 Business Update

As the situation surrounding COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, we want to assure you that we remain fully committed to supporting and protecting the health, safety and welfare of all employees, clients, and the broader community at this time.

Update: 2021

Throughout 2020 and into 2021 we have never seen such precedence in demand. The same sentiment echoes throw the entire Building and Construction Industry. Many Australian homeowners are choosing to work on their renovations in lieu of overseas holidays.

European countries that manufacture our hardware products continue to implement physical distancing measures to protect their citizens from infection of COVID-19. This means that most warehouses are under-staffed and production output is lower than expected.

Limited imported products combined with industrial action in Australian seaports has further impacted the supply chain. It isn’t all bad news as product is still available.

Pre-order and be winner in 3 steps

  1. Enquire early – by being prepared and contacting us as soon as you have your designer’s plans at hand, we can then start discussions to ensure we can fit your project into our own schedules.
  2. Come with options – gather your preferred products and consider putting a contingency plan in place to allow for all products to be available without extended delays. Many are in-stock but in some specific cases we have had to wait up to 3 months for imported products to arrive in our workshop.
  3. Patient is a virtue – depending on the scope of each project, clients may have to sit on our waitlist to start a bespoke job for up to three months.


We now consider this to be our “new normal” in the realms of bespoke manufacturing and design.

Update: April 2020

MullumJoinery Wood & Metal are a part of the Building and Construction Industry. The Federal and State Governments deem our industry as an essential service during the COVID-19 crisis. As a consequence, we are open for business as usual while safely practising social distancing measures.

Update: March 2020

Our management team are monitoring the situation closely and have decided to take the following steps which comply to public health advice while endeavouring to continue business as usual.

Health and Safety

Clients

Whist we usually welcome enquiries at our workshop, we request clients respect “social distancing” protocols and send all new enquiries via email.

If current clients have concerns regarding on-site visitations, please email or call us to discuss future arrangements.

Internal processes

We are increasing general hygiene levels with all staff whilst onsite and in our workshop. If staff become unwell we ask them to take immediate leave and seek medical advice.

Supply Chain

Our business only supplies our clients the best quality products on the market. Over 97% of supplies are made in Australia or Europe. The remainder comes from China with many factories going into lock-down or limited production over past weeks which is now leading to significant delays in production and export.

In the short to medium term, we estimate that our normal supply chain will have minimal impact on our own production and deadlines as suppliers are also keeping a sense of normality. If supply starts to become an issue in the long-term and deadlines become difficult to meet, we may offer alternative quality products to suit individual requirements.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

Drafted architectural plans are preferred but not essential.

If you do not have plans you will need to provide us with both: 

  1. reference image of your joinery style; and
  2. a sketch containing configuration and draft dimensions in millimetres

this is usually enough information to draft an estimate.

Our first step in our quoting process is to use your provided measurements using our request form (above).

Once you have confirmed the job and paid the deposit:

  1. if we are installing the job: we have already allowed in our pricing for travel time to measure up accurately onsite.
  2. if we are not installing the job: we rely on accurate final measurements from your builder or carpenter. If your site is in the Byron Shire, we may be able to measure up onsite depending on the scale of the job and our workload.

There are limited bi-fold hardware products available in the Australian marketplace in which we are confident to endorse.

We are currently researching and prototyping a small sample of hardware brands for bi-fold steel door configurations.

Yes, we can. If you are budget-conscious, we recommend using steel joinery for the featured areas of your home and consider other options for the utilitarian areas.  

Due to the incredibly high demand of this product, it is highly recommended you contact us as soon as you receive your architectural plans.

Lead times for manufacturing may take 2+ months from point of accepting the quote, however this may be negotiated upon and subject to product selections, scale, our workload and your own deadline.

Best practice is confirming your job by paying a deposit of 10% during the first stage of construction which will lock your job into our schedule.

Delivery is included our installation estimates.

If you do not require installation, we can offer an Australia-wide third-party freight company to transport goods or you can organise your own collection from our Mullumbimby workshop.

Our workshop is in Mullumbimby, near Byron Bay, Northern NSW.

Our staff can travel to install within a three-hour drive from our workshop. All delivery and installation by our staff may incur fees that relate to:

  • vehicle expenses
  • staff/contractor time charged on an hourly rate, and/or
  • accommodation and meal expenses (subject to installation duration and distance from our workshop)

You can arrange your own experienced and qualified builder or carpenter to install on your behalf. A minimum of two people is required for installation.

We do not recommend a handyman or DIY installation.

Inclusions

  • Bolts, screws and all accessories will come with your frames
  • Ancillary supporting frames and packaging may be included where deemed appropriate
  • Glazing is optional. Clients may have access to their own local glass shop. Please specify this upon quoting

Exclusions

  • Installation tools
  • Installation instructions are not included but we can give your experienced tradesman advice, if required

Customised steel doors and windows are to most tastes but not necessarily to all budgets.

We are here to have an open conversation about finding solutions for each clients’ requirements. Fitting into budget ranges is a critical part of the equation. We offer a range of product options and if we do not know how much has been allowed (or not allowed) in budgets, we will not know how to find the right solution.

All our products are currently tailored to suit individual requirements. Values can be aligned with bespoke quality timber joinery.
